Les incroyables bienfaits de la balade après le dîner

Les effets de l'exercice physique sur la santé sont-ils équivalents, quelle que soit l'heure de la journée? Faut-il faire du sport le matin, l'après-midi ou le soir? Pour la première fois, des chercheurs américains apportent un début de réponse intéressante cette question. Eh bien, pour faire baisser le taux de sucre dans le sang, c'est le soir, après le dîner, qu'il faut aller faire une promenade d'au moins quinze minutes et rythme soutenu.

Pour parvenir cette conclusion, les médecins se sont intéressés 10 personnes de plus de 60 ans, sédentaires, avec une glycémie dans les limites de la normale (entre 1,05 et 1,25 g/l). Ils n'étaient ni fumeurs ni obèses. Tous ces volontaires se sont prêtés de bonne grâce une expérience inédite, trois fois quatre semaines d'intervalle. Isolés pendant 48 heures, dans un espace clos, ils ont bénéficié d'abord d'une surveillance de leur glycémie, sans activité particulière pendant 24 heures. Tous avaient la même alimentation. Puis, le jour suivant, ils ont eu le choix, soit entre faire 15 minutes de marche, après chacun des trois principaux repas, petit déjeuner, déjeuner et dîner, soit de pratiquer 45 minutes d'un tel exercice le matin 10 h 30 ou l'après-midi après 16 h 30. Il s'agissait pour tous de marcher sur un tapis roulant programmé pour qu'ils dépensent trois fois plus d'énergie qu'au repos. Pour ne rien laisser au hasard, le taux de sucre dans le sang était mesuré en permanence.

Réhabiliter la promenade digestive

Les résultats révèlent que, bien sûr, l'exercice physique pratiqué le matin après le petit déjeuner ou l'après-midi après le repas contribue réduire le taux de sucre, par rapport aux mesures effectuées le premier jour, sans exercice.
